Our Purpose

South Georgia Provisional Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
— 1 Peter 2:9

A warm hearted, Holy Spirit inspired church.

Serve South Georgia

The SGAGMC exists to create an effective structure to serve the churches, laity, and clergy of South Georgia. As a provisional GMC conference, we join God in a journey of bringing new life, reconciliation, and the presence of Christ to the communities and people of Georgia, helping each person reflect the character of Christ. Our heart is to see a spirit of revival move across Georgia — transforming our region — overflowing to the world.

Establish Connection

In Christ, we can do more together than alone. Connection has always been a critical tenet of Wesleyan tradition, equally supported in scripture and modeled in the ministry of Jesus and the early apostolic church. As Christians gather together, walking in God’s will as one holy, Catholic Church, we are empowered and enabled to serve in God’s mission. The SGAGMC will provide opportunities for the sharing of knowledge and wisdom and the establishment of new ministries to serve God in connection with one another.

Assist the Local Church

The local church is the most critical element of evangelical ministry in the GMC, reaching new unchurched communities, discipling believers, and caring for those in need inside and outside the local church. At its heart, the SGAGMC is about empowering the mission of God in the local church and supporting the planting of new local churches in underserved areas. From the consultative appointment process in ensuring the pulpit is filled with those truly called, to providing structure and support in ministry, the SGAGMC is here to assist the local church.

Extend Ministry

As John Wesley is famously quoted, the world is my parish. This calling often requires local churches in connection to work together to extend ministry into areas beyond the local parish. The SGAGMC will enable, encourage and work to facilitate these opportunities for ministry and provide support for outreach both inside and outside of our local communities. In our connectional conference, we will be enabled for ministry in a manner that a single church may not be able to accomplish on their own.

Support Clergy

The path of ministry can be a difficult journey but a very rewarding one. The need is great, particularly in the hope that God is growing the church and its mission in the coming years. For those called by God to this path, the SGAGMC desires to assist each to fulfill that call, both in identifying candidates and assisting them in the journey. For those already in ministry, the SGAGMC will provide practical support and development to ensure that all clergy are able to serve in their calling to the fullest.

Instill Accountability

From the beginning of John Wesley’s ministry, accountability was a critical aspect of discipleship and the Christian life. Wesley’s Classes and Bands demonstrated small group accountability at the laity level in a powerful way that spreads scriptural holiness. The SGAGMC will assist and provide support for developing accountability at the church level while also ensuring accountability in administration and leadership.
