South Georgia GMC Welcomes Two New Leaders to Conference Staff
The South Georgia Conference of the Global Methodist Church is excited to announce the addition of two outstanding leaders to its conference staff — Rev. Jimmy Towson as Dean of the Cabinet and Rev. Dr. Anthony McPhail as Conference Operations Officer.
Rev. Jimmy Towson – Dean of the Cabinet
In his new role, Rev. Towson will work closely with the area presiding elders in appointment-making and organization, as well as support the entire cabinet in fulfilling their mission to serve churches and connectional communities.
“I am deeply honored to officially join the SGA GMC team and continue working with a gifted group of leaders!” Towson shared. “I can't wait to see what the Lord does in the coming years in South Georgia. It's going to be good!”
A native of Dublin, GA, Rev. Towson earned his law degree from Mercer University and practiced law for 20 years before entering ministry in 2001. An ordained elder in the GMC, he currently serves as Senior Pastor at Park Avenue Church in Valdosta. He and his wife Debbie have been married for 43 years and have one son and three granddaughters.
Rev. Dr. Anthony McPhail – Conference Operations Officer
Rev. Dr. McPhail will oversee the daily operations of the conference, support strategic initiatives, and ensure alignment between mission and ministry practices. He brings extensive experience as a Connectional Community Presiding Elder, General Conference Task Force member, and local church pastor.
“My experience forming the GMC regionally and globally, including working with Certified Lay Ministers, planning conferences, and serving as a Presiding Elder, has focused on developing processes that benefit local ministries,” McPhail said. “It is a joy to join this team in living out our mission to ‘help churches.’”
A Macon native, Rev. Dr. McPhail holds degrees from Young Harris College, the University of Georgia, Emory University, and Asbury Theological Seminary. He currently serves as Senior Pastor of First Methodist Church of Valdosta. He and his wife Emma have been married for 16 years and have two children.
A Growing Team to Serve South Georgia
Rev. Towson and Rev. Dr. McPhail join Communications Director Rev. Dr. David Donnan, Financial Secretary Evelyn Ramsey, Conference Superintendent Jay Hanson, and Conference Administrator Michelle Martin. Together, this small but dedicated team serves over 190 churches and thousands of Global Methodists across South Georgia.
